Empowering Teens | Prioritizing Wellbeing
What is the beacon?
The Beacon is built on The Friendship Circle’s mission to foster a more inclusive community that supports individuals with diverse abilities and needs. Recognizing that adolescent mental health thrives in a community setting, The Beacon was established to bolster the safety net for high school youth in Pittsburgh. By extending our model of a welcoming and inclusive space, The Beacon focuses on increasing protective factors for emotional wellness while reducing risk factors.
Facilitated by trained staff, The Beacon empowers teens to advocate for themselves and their own mental health. The Beacon offers inclusive programs & groups aimed to teach teens how to take care of themselves & one another as they become compassionate, capable, and kind adults.
What we do?
The Beacon welcomes high school students from across Greater Pittsburgh to become members. Membership is free; however, we do require an agreement to abide by the rules that enable us to provide a relaxing, substance-free, and supportive social space for teens to connect and thrive. Like the Friendship Circle of Pittsburgh, programming and the environment is developed to be inclusive to the needs of our members.
Why did WE create

The Beacon is focused on addressing mental health as just one part of overall well-being. With an emphasis on self-care, peer support, and inclusion, The Beacon’s programming offers teens strategies they can use to support themselves and one another.
